Hello my name is gabby and I have a music project called gabby start right now
where'd your artist name come from?
I used to be called Knapsack, but sometime in high school I decided that I wanted to go under another name. With multiple working titles beforehand, I decided on gabby start..
how'd you start getting into music?
Piano lessons > Big Time Rush > Monstercat > Ableton Live
is there a certain project that made you really interested in production?
Definitely the Monstercat Compilations like 016-017 and earlier. That was when I started getting really into production
what artists currently inspire you?
INABAKUMORI +The Chemical Brothers +Rumskib have been heavy in rotation these days
what's your production process?
Hard to sum it up because it changes from song to song. I like to write and create my instrumentals at the same time. I find those special alchemical moments come when the process is integrated
best piece of advice you'd give to anyone who wants to start producing?
You can do it. It’s so worth it. You get to add every single sound to your music.. It really starts to feel like you’re own little language after some practice

about your last project, knapsack, how'd you come up with that name?
I loved wearing this strange backpack when I was 14. A pretty enaturalist decision to make a SoundCloud account called knapsack if you think about it

recently when you started the gabby start project, you announced it along with a record label deal. how'd that happen? [if you're allowed to say it]
In 2020 i started working on a sideproject called sebastian6–I got in touch with an A&R at who was a fan of that music. I presented the idea of gabby start to them along with a plan, and they said they wanted to do it
has the deal affected your production style at all?
I don’t think in any significant way!
what project of yours is a personal favorite?

regarding one of your biggest collaborators, how'd you and underscores meet?
Me and underscores were both posting music on SoundCloud around the same time, I think we got in touch with each other in 2017. We spent years as friends just online, but we both were living in New York by 2019

I think they’re gonna perform one day, I’m trying to get the members to reunite...
